Microchipping

Our vet performing surgery on a cat

Losing a pet is every family’s worst fear. Collars and tags can fall off, but a microchip provides a permanent, reliable form of identification. We recommend microchipping your pets as a safe, simple way to give your pet the best chance of being reunited with you if they are ever lost.

What is a Microchip?

A microchip is a tiny chip about the size of a grain of rice placed just under the skin, usually between your pet’s shoulder blades. Each chip has a unique ID number that links to your contact information in a secure database. Should your pet be brought into a clinic or shelter, the teams are trained to scan for microchips immediately to help identify a pet’s family.

Benefits of a Microchip

    • Nationwide Recognition: Most veterinary hospitals and shelters can scan microchips.
    • Peace of Mind: Increases the chance of being reunited with your pet if they’re lost.
    • Permanent ID: Unlike collars or tags, it can’t be lost or removed.
    • Quick & Safe: Placement is fast, safe, and feels similar to a vaccination.

What to Expect When Getting Your Pet Microchipped

The microchip will be placed during a regular appointment that has been scheduled with us ahead of time, or it can be timed to take place during the time of another procedure.

The chip is placed quickly and safely under your pet’s skin, and then we will conduct a quick scan to make sure it is working correctly. You will be provided guidance on updating your pet’s registration information.
